MY THOUGHTS

I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO RECEIVE A COPY OF THIS BOOK TO REVIEW FOR THIS TOUR, AND FOR THAT...I AM DEFINITELY GREAT FULL! THIS STORY IS FOCUSED ON ELLORA. SHE IS AN AWESOME GIRL WHO CAN DEFINETELY HOLD HER OWN. TAKING A JOURNEY WITH HER ACROSS THE WORLD, INTO A NEW PLACE, WITH ONLY WHAT SHE HAS ONE HER BACK AND IN HER LUGGAGE DEFINITELY KEPT ME INTRIGUED. MEETING EVERYONE IN THIS NEW PLACE AND FALLING IN LOVE WITH THEM WAS AMAZING. THERE REALLY ARE STILL GREAT COMMUNITIES OUT THERE! I DON'T CARE IF IT IS A BOOK, I WANT TO GO THERE AND HANG WITH EVERYONE LOL. LADY J, YOU HAD MY HEART RACING IN SO MANY PLACES IN THIS STORY GIRL. IT WAS PERFECT. THERE WAS ADRENALINE IN SOME, ROMANCE IN OTHERS, AND EXCITEMENT FOR "FAMILY" THROUGHOUT. I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2!! A FULL 5 STARS!

EXCERPT

Ellora raced down the hallway as fast as her legs could carry her. Dread gripped her when she
heard his heavy footsteps pounding on the hardwood floors behind her. His powerful presence echoed around the eerily empty house. It didn't matter how fast she ran, he was always right on her heels. Ellora quaked violently when she made it to the stairs. If she couldn't make it out of there, she'd never survive. Reaching out, Ellora gripped the railing with both hands and used the leverage to fly down the steps. She skipped so many at a time, it felt like flying. He thundered down the steps, after her. The smell of his rancid panting, snaked its way over her shoulder. The stench stung her nose. Ellora risked looking back. His large black eyes, vicious with a murderous rage she didn’t understand, were only a few feet behind her. He was close enough to grab her. Oh. My God, this is it. He reached out... and she lunged, taking a giant leap before she got to the last three steps. She successfully made it over the carpeted runner at the bottom. Her ankles stung as she landed hard, on her bare feet. Easily ignoring the pain, Ellora sprinted to the front door. She heard him land on the runner and crashed to the floor, as it slipped out from under him. Shaking, she fumbled with clumsy fingers, trying to unlock the deadbolt and door knob lock.

After several slips from her bloodied hands, she finally heaved open the door. She skidded on her own blood, which was trickling down her legs and pooling onto the floor. The cool air rushed in, sobering her. Chills raised goosebumps on her skin as she dashed out the door. Ellora looked back to make sure he wasn’t behind her. This action caused her to lose her balance, tripping down the driveway and crashing right into the car. She remembered leaving her it unlocked, so she wrenched it open and jumped inside. She immediately locked the doors in record speed. It took only a moment for her to get a grip on her debilitating panic. She frantically searched her pockets for the car keys. First the front, then the back. Ellora froze. A devastating hopelessness made her stomach drop when she realized that she left the keys in the house. She hung her head in defeat… BANG! BANG! BANG! The sudden violent pounding sent Ellora shooting out of her seat, frightened to death as he pulverized the glass window with his fists. He stopped his onslaught abruptly and pressed his face against the window. His disturbing eyes and malicious sneer held her captive. He lifted his hand presenting a set of keys and shook them. ‘NO!’

MEET THE AUTHOR

I grew up in Upstate NY, but my heart belongs in Arizona. If given the chance, I'd gladly trade in frost burn, for sun burn!  I speak in movie quotes ALL the time. Seriously, it might be considered a sickness by now ;) I absolutely love the sound of others laughing. So I'll try to get you to do just that!

I love coffee, peanut butter cups, and OF COURSE reading.  I grew up causing all kinds of trouble with my twin sister/partner in crime.  My wild over-exaggerated story telling grew, along with my love for reading. With the support of my hubby and the encouragement of my womb mate, I put pen to paper, and let my imagination take over.

I am an author currently working on the release of my debut novel. Forever Marked is a romantic suspense, and the first book in a series. I enjoy reading all genres. Paranormal, thriller, romantic suspense, dystopian.... You name it!

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR

What is your writing routine?

I actually have a writing board where I make notes and make out a schedule. On a day I have planned to write, I normally get up and get started first thing in the morning. I try to write on average about two to three days a week, sometimes more if I am lucky.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not writing?

I love reading of course, and getting out and enjoying myself and the summer months. I've been heading to the beach, different parks, and hitting the pool. I also enjoy spending time with my other half Bruce, our cat Annie, and hanging out with my best friend Matt.

Do you have any other books besides this series?

The Edge of Springwood is my first series of novels. I self published a novella years and years ago, and a few after that but nothing that compares to my current series.

What is your favorite book you've written?

I have truly enjoyed writing each book in The Edge of Springwood series. Really hard to nail a favorite, each one of them have just been such an awesome experience.

What/who is your favorite author or book?

I have enjoyed every Linwood Barclay book since 2007's No Time For Goodbye, also my favorite book from him. I also love Andrew Gross, both are amazing thriller and suspense writers.

What else are you working on?

A few side projects, the fifth book of The Edge of Springwood, as well as a potential spin off of the series, and another very interesting project titled Terror Under Cover, which involves an abandoned mall, rumored hidden money, and a long time missing girl.

Do you have a favorite scene in your books?

Of course, there are so many! In Twisted Revenge, where Jacob Barnes's sister is held captive on his hacked campaign site, in Burned by Deceit where Becky Robinson is held captive in a bookstore on fire, and in Dark Connections after the Barnes have to say goodbye to a family member. You just never know where these characters are going to take you next. I just hope readers are as blown away by the twists as I have been writing them.

Where do you see your writing career in 5 years?

Well, like any writer I dream of book signings and more readers coming my way. It's hard to say what you see. I know what I want and it's to keep writing and hopefully keep publishing.

Anything else you would like to share?

My website is always open to stop by and visit and subscribe to my newsletter. www.jenniferbrownauthor.weebly.com You can also follow me on all social media there as well, except for my author page which I have just started and is still under construction! But check out the links which will keep you up to date on everything!

Her love of books grew, and in the summer before she started high school she wrote her longest story, halfway filling an old school notebook. In high school she started to enter writing contests, and in her junior and senior years joined the Herald staff becoming entertainment editor over her high school newspaper.

After graduating, with a few writing contest awards under her belt she attended college a year later, and was urged by her English instructor to join the college paper. She did, writing a few reviews of restaraunts and movies, as well as writing a review of her first Alanis Morissette concert. A few years later she was asked to take the position of entertainment editor.

At 38, Jennifer has written several stories and has many more in store for readers. When she is not writing she likes reading, working on computer graphics, editing photos, listening to music, and brainstorming for new ideas!

EXCERPT

When we got home, I decided to put all our bickering aside and make love to my husband. While Chris pleased me sexually, our busy work schedules had reduced our lovemaking to mundane quickies. I knew if I was bored, he must be too.
To spice things up, I’d read magazines, watched porn, and gathered tips from my friends. He loves lacy lingerie, so I wore my black bustier, black French-cut panties, and fishnet stockings. I lit scented candles and put on soft jazz to set the ambiance in the bedroom. Chris walked in.
“Damn!” he said.
He tugged on my lingerie to take it off. I couldn’t hide my smile. His hands hungrily roamed my body.
“Easy, baby. Enjoy what you’re looking at.”
I felt self-conscious as he groped me because his earlier comment about me looking chunky, kept replaying in my mind.
We made love. I used a lot of the new ideas I learned to spice things up, but he didn’t seem to notice. Chris always has the decency to make sure I cum, but again we ended up having another quickie because he had to wake up early the next morning. He rolled over on his side and went to sleep almost immediately after. I frowned, shook my head and stared at the ceiling. Was it me? Is this how marriage was supposed to be? Had we both gotten too comfortable?
I decided I’d start going to the gym and get a personal trainer. I hoped working with a trainer would change me enough that even Chris would have to say something positive about it. I didn’t imagine how much it would change me.

“You sure you’re ready for Grandma Edna and her meddling?” I asked as I led Lily up my parents’ driveway. Everyone was here with the exception of Zander and Riley, who was still ordered to stay off her feet. She was chomping at the bit to get out, but Zander wasn’t budging. She was even willing to come see Grandma, which should tell everyone just how bored she truly was. No one willingly came to our Sunday brunches, not when Edna was involved.

“I’m fine, Tanner. She can’t be that bad.”

I could only shake my head and wrap my arm around her shoulders just a little tighter. Poor girl had no idea what she was about to walk into.

I heard her nagging the moment I entered the house.

“The way you boys mistreat your bodies, I just can’t get over it. Mason at least only has one tattoo.” Grandma always found a way to tell us we were doing everything wrong.

“Nope, got four. Three are just in places I only allow Kelly to enjoy,” Mason clarified.

“Don’t forget about his piercings. He has a couple of those.” Max had found a way to keep the attention off himself. “What piercings?” my mother and Granny E said in unison.

“Another place only Kelly is allowed to enjoy.” Mason seemed so refined and straitlaced. No one would expect him to have his junk pierced. Now the secret was out.

“Max, I would expect it from you or even Tanner, but Mason?” my mother announced. We had just rounded the corner, and Lily snickered at her comment.

“What the hell?” I asked. “I’m not even here sixty seconds and somehow I’m already being talked about.”

My mom smiled as she stood from the couch and pulled me in for a hug. “What took you so long?” she asked.

I tilted my head to the side, motioning to Lily. “Lil couldn’t decide what to wear. I told her she looked beautiful in anything, but she didn’t believe me.” Lily had finally decided on a pale blue dress, which brought out the color of her eyes. It was conservative and covered entirely too much in my opinion, but I knew she was worried about her first impression on Granny.

My mother’s gaze shifted to Lily. “Well hello, sweetheart, I’m glad you’re here,” she said as she hugged her. I loved how accepting and welcoming my mother was. She was an amazing woman.

I looked up just in time to see my grandma analyzing Lily from across the room. Her eyes softened from their usual judgmental haze. She took a few steps in our direction, and I held my breath, praying, hoping she’d keep her judgments to herself. I was more than positive I would not be able to hold my tongue if she said something out of line.

“Who is this beautiful young woman?”

Well suck me dry. I think I heard someone quietly whisper, “What the fuck?” I was sure it came from one of my brothers.

“I’m Edna, honey, and what’s your name?’ she asked Lily.

I think Lil was just as shocked as everyone else. I had prepped her for the cranky version of Granny. Nowhere in that conversation had I mentioned the woman that now stood before us.

The room was full of open-mouthed, mesmerized, yet confused people.

“Lily.” Her shaky voice came out barely above a whisper.

“Well, Lily, it is nice to meet you. Come with me. Let’s go get us some tea.” She hooked her arm through

Lily’s and led her toward the kitchen.

Silence set in as we all watched the two of them walk away. Lily never looked back. In fact, you could hear her soft laughter as they stepped out of sight.

“You remind me a lot of myself when I was younger,” Edna said, her voice fading down the hall.

Ah, hell no, Lily was nothing like Granny. She was sweet and kind. So far from Edna and her bat-shit crazy ways.

“Dude,” Max grunted. “Your girl has tamed the crazy ol’ lady. That thought should scare the shit out of you.”

Everyone including my father was shocked. Shit like that never happened. Granny E never found anyone she didn’t have some sort of complaint about.
