Review~ No Good Deed by M.P. McDonald

No Good Deed No Good Deed by M.P. McDonald
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was amazing! I love crime books, and this one was so great. There were several and I mean SEVERAL parts where I was a bit taken aback by how graphic some situations were, but I knew this going in so I was expecting it. I just wanted to mention it so that you were aware of it beforehand. This isn't your every day "coated in sugar" crime novel...this is the "nitty gritty" kind. You see what goes on. The storyline was great, the imagery was spectacular, and the narration was on point! I would not change a single thing about this entire book if given the chance. 5 STARS!

Review: Never Said by Carol Lynch Williams

Never Said Never Said by Carol Lynch Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Never Said is a young adult book about twin sisters and a drastic week in their lives. They are complete opposites at first; Annie is the favorite while Sarah tends to stay to the background a bit like she is the fiddle player to her sister’s tune. The sisters do not stay as opposites though as some dramatic changes are happening in the household. The situations definitely draw the girls closer together, more like what we all have preconceived notions of twins. With the situations that are going on in Never Said, I think that every pre-teen needs to read or listen to this story. It is a touching story that makes you think about your own children and what they aren’t telling you. Both the storyline and narration had a great flow to it, and the narrator has a good talent to bounce back and forth with the point of views in the story. I like that! 4.5 STARS for Never Said!!

Review: Finding Dandelion by Lex Martin

Finding Dandelion Finding Dandelion by Lex Martin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Finding Dandelion is book 2 in the series and is Jax and Dani’s turn for the spotlight. In this installment, we get back to a lot of the same friends that we know and love from Dearest Clementine. We also get closer to some of the background characters, including Darrin. Finding Dandelion has the fun, college atmosphere filled with young love, drama, easy emotions and all the things that we tend to lose the older we get. I think the story line was just as good here as in book 1. The only reason that I don’t give this book 4.5 stars is due to the narration. It is a dual narrated book, which I love, but the male narrator just didn’t do it for me. He wasn’t a bad narrator, far from it actually, but it sounded like maybe he had a cold or something? I’m not entirely sure what it was, but there was something that just didn’t sit right. The female narration was great like the authors’ work, so overall I give 4 SOLID STARS.

Review: Pocketful of Sand by M. Leighton

Pocketful of Sand Pocketful of Sand by M. Leighton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I listened to this right after Strong Enough by M. Leighton, so I had Leighton books back to back. This was not a bad thing at all. I was able to see some of the variety that she has the ability to write. It is always nice to see that an author can go in multiple directions. Pocketful of Sand’s synopsis mentions that this is an epic love story, and is sure is! This isn’t your typical romance novel where everything just clicks into place and everything is peachy. It is not a light-hearted, feel good type of book. Pocketful of Sand is as real of a love story as you can get! In this story, there are situations that are hard to read/listen to and even harder to live. People do have to live through situations like this though, so as hard as it was to listen to them, they were as real as you can get in a book. The story line was very good and the dual narration was great. Anyone who knows me and my audiobooks, knows that I love multi-narration audio, especially if done well. I know that anyone who gives this book a shot, and can take the rough situations for what they are, will love it! I give this book 5 SHINY STARS!!

Review: Strong Enough by M. Leighton

Strong Enough Strong Enough by M. Leighton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this in audio format and loved it, especially since it’s dual narration. Strong Enough is book 1 of the series and definitely sets a good foundation for the rest to come behind. Learning about Muse and her trying to find her dad but finding Jasper first was definitely interesting! Jasper has his own agenda to follow, but will it get in the way? Strong Enough has enough suspense, romance, and intrigue to keep you going on until the end, and it leaves you wanting even more. This is absolutely not a one-time read/listen for me. I will be keeping an eye out for the rest of the series on audio. 4.5 STARS!

Spotlight~Jennifer Seidler & #Giveaway

JENNIFER SEIDLER

INTERVIEW

What made you want to write?

I don't know if there was any one thing that gave me the impetus to write. I've been putting words on paper as long as I can remember. I wrote all in high school and in college. Submitted poetry to the college literary magazine and got rejected left and right, but it didn't stop me. I learned a new way to write in law school, and after that experience, I was itching to get back to the creativity. I write a lot on the side, I've written a lot of novel length things, but Dry Land was the first one I felt confident enough to publish. Writing is a drive for me. Its a craving, something I have to do. It's on my mind all the time.

What genre(s) do you write in?

I've written romance. I've written gritty, dirty crime novels. I've written sex. I've written comedy. I've written drama. I've written science fiction. I've written short stories, novellas, novelettes and novels. I suppose I don't try to pigeonhole myself into a genre. Dry Land, however, is, I think, considered hard science fiction with elements of romance in it. I love that genre deeply. I just finished reading The Martian by Andy Weir and wow. That book was right up my alley.

What was the first book you ever wrote?

The earliest story I ever wrote was, to my six-year old mind quite funny. A scene, only a few handwritten pages in pink and purple ink, about a doctor who had a cold and was complaining to his fellow doctors that he felt like he was "gonna dieeeeee." Yeah, not so funny, but still. The first book length work I wrote was a bit of fan fiction years and years ago. Harry Potter, of course. It wasn't very good at all, but it was mine. Can't find it now even if I tried.

What is your favorite out of all of your books, published or not?

Definitely Dry Land. There's another story I wrote that I love called Black Dahlia, but that will not ever get published. :)

What makes this your favorite?

I think the way it came to me. It was not like anything I wrote before. The family and I visited the Kennedy Space center in 2013 and seeing the shuttle Atlantis sparked something. The story sort of popped into my head, Ted was nearly fully formed in my mind. I wrote it in my brain on the drive home from Orlando to Wisconsin, and then felt very much compelled to write it out as quickly as I could. That was quite an editing job when I was done.

What is your daily routine when it comes to your writing?

I don't really have a daily routine. I wish I did. I sort of write as things come to me. Right now I'm on a little bit of a dry spell, but I'm not worried about that. Something will come. I'm doing some hobby writing with some partners, bits of back and forth that are character based, and that keeps me going on a daily basis writing wise.

What is something that you struggle with when it comes to writing?

Gerunds. Definitely gerunds. :)

What is your favorite thing about writing?

Sitting in my car and speaking out all the dialogue my mind comes up with. In voices. With full on accents. Glad I drive myself to work every morning, and drive country roads. I'd look pretty silly talking to myself otherwise.

Where do you get your ideas for writing?

Everywhere and anywhere.

Who is your author inspiration?

Jasper Fforde. He's given me the freedom and permission to write the opposite sex in first person.

What is your favorite book of all time?

Again, Jasper Fforde. The Eyre Affair and its sequels. I love Jasper's freeform style of writing, his deep characterization, his off the wall humor, his use of language, his manner of grabbing the reader by the heart and the balls, and yes, even his literary snobbishness. :)

Where do you see your writing career in 5 years?

Hopefully with another book or two under my belt. Perhaps next time I'll try to farm out to an agent if my product is good enough. I'd love to keep on doing this, even independently, it's been a wild, wonderful ride and I bless the day I decided to publish Dry Land.

Dry Land

MY THOUGHTS

Since I have had the pleasure of listening to Dry Land,
I thought that I would put my two cents in.

This type of book was sort of new for me…
the Artificial Intelligence/Robotic type of character,
but I found that I enjoyed it.
Having some of the characters
having that type of characteristics,
thrown in with regular humans,
and trying to find a way of expansion for Earth on the Moon.
Now we all know that the Moon
is so extremely important to the balance of the oceans,
but obviously not all of the characters take this
into consideration in this book.
The result, is definitely worth checking out!

It was an enjoyable book with a new look on things.
The narrator did well and had great accents.
I would definitely recommend this book to others and give it a solid 4 STARS.

You definitely need to give this book a shot,
either on audio or ebook!!

And you are about to get a chance
at winning your very own copy!
Keep reading for this chance...

Cruise Control by Kerry Adrienne Audiobook

CRUISE CONTROL BY KERRY ADRIENNE
From the 2014 Goodreads Best M/M anthology, Unconditional Surrender
by Kerry Adrienne
Genre: LGBTQ Romance (M/M)

SYNOPSIS

Retired soldier Blake Best drives hard—his car, his life, and his choices.

Former Airman Parker Monteith is fighting to keep his
life on cruise control so he doesn’t lose it all.

One Maserati brings them together.
Can Blake slow down enough to discover the important
things aren't in the fast lane?

MY THOUGHTS

First off, I completely missed the part where it was stated that this was a M/M romance. So imagine the surprise I got about 10 minutes into listening?! It is all okay though, just was caught off guard. Once I got past my surprise, I was able to enjoy the book. Obviously being a short story, it was very fast paced, but I thought it was a good story. Even as open and tolerant as society has gotten today, there are still a LOT of these little towns where there is not a same-sex couple. You get to see some of the feelings revolving around this issue, and that was nice to see. I think that Kerry Adrienne did a good job with this story. :-)

The Key (The True Reign Series Book 1) by Jennifer Anne Davis

Book Synopsis:

Within these pages lie kingdoms with castles and princes who fall in love with fair maidens, but make no mistake−this is no fairytale.

His father's kingdom is on the brink of upheaval and at the center of it all is an ordinary girl who could be the key to its undoing. When faced with the ultimate choice, will he choose the girl he's falling in love with or the kingdom he has sworn to protect?

An ordinary girl with an extraordinary past... All she wants is to be free. What she doesn't realize is that freedom comes with a price she can't afford to pay. She's forced to accept the proposal of a prince she despises, even though her heart belongs to someone else... his brother.

Seventeen-year-old Rema lives in a brutal kingdom where travel between regions is forbidden, people are starving, and looking at someone the wrong way can mean death. Nineteen-year-old Darmik is the king's son and Commander of the King's Army. He spends his days roving the island, doing his father's bidding and trying to maintain control over the people.

When a chance encounter throws Rema and Darmik together, they share an instantaneous connection, but any sort of relationship between them is strictly forbidden. Darmik's brother, the Crown Prince, notices Darmik's interest in Rema and, in a calculated, political move, blackmails her. Faced with an impossible choice, Rema is forced to sacrifice her heart in order to save her family.

As Rema is taken to the palace with the Crown Prince, Darmik confronts the growing rumor that a legitimate blood heir to the throne exists and is trying to overthrow Darmik's family. In Darmik's quest to hunt down and kill the threat, he discovers that nothing is as it seems. Locked in the king's castle, Rema finds herself a key player in a massive power struggle. When Darmik shows up, she's not sure if she can trust him. The line between friends, enemies, and loyalty becomes blurred. As truths are unlocked, Rema understands that she just might be the key to finding the rightful heir and restoring peace to the kingdom... if she can manage to stay alive long enough.

My Review:

This is book 1 of 3 and is not a standalone book. The entire

series is available so there’s no waiting for the next in the

 series!

I listened to this book on audio and the first thing that I

noticed about the book is that I had to slow down the

narration speed to half-speed. The narrator, Michelle

Michaels, was speaking pretty fast and I had a hard time

keeping up with her at first. She has a very good accent for

 this story, just talks fast.

The book starts right into the middle of a big, bad situation.

You have a King dying, a Queen sending her daughter away

to try to survive while she loses her life, a trusted man of the

court running off with the infant Princess. It is pretty much off

and running from the beginning. Things slow down a bit after

the book jumps 17 years to the future.

We now have a young woman who has a life with her Aunt

and Uncle and her best friend, Bren that she can out race on

a horse every time. I’m not going to put any spoilers in here,

since I hate it when people do that to me, but things start to

go up and downhill quickly for Rema.

She then meets a couple of Princes, one of which is

awesome for a time, the other is a jerk from the get-go. At

this point, there is love, betrayal, political games, dismissals,

dungeons, rebels, and a cliff-hanger ending. Thankfully, book

2 “Red” is already out and we won’t have to be beating our

head against the wall over the cliffhanger, but it is still there.

Fair warning! Buy book 2 before finishing book 1.

When it comes to rating, I rate the narration of the story

about 3.5 STARS but the story overall I will give a GOOD 4

STARS!!

Print Length: 151 Pages
Audio Length: 3 Hours 9 Minutes

Review:

Wish you weren't was a good story about a preteen boy learning a valuable lesson. It involves time travel, family issues, sibling fights, and wishing on a star. It was a pretty good story, especially for middle grade level. I would definitely recommend for children with siblings as well. Letting children of the mid-grade level either read or listen to this story would be a good way to teach them a lesson of appreciating what they have. Especially in this day and age, the younger generation pretty much expects everything to be "their" way. I think that this is something that every person from about 7 and up needs to hear, no matter the format. The narrator did a pretty good job, the only thing was that sometimes he didn't have much feeling in his voice. Over all it was a good story that I definitely would listen to/read again. I give this book 4 STARS!!
