~My Review~

I absolutely loved this book! I'm not usually big on prequels since they tend to be short and I always feel like there is something missing, but Aria Michaels did a wonderful job with this book. It was not novel length, but was much longer than a normal 90 page prequel. Starting the Icarus journey was great and not so great. I was able to relate to Liv at so many different places in this book that it was actually kind of scary. She has the typical teen angst attitude to start with, a little brother whom she loves and 2 loving parents. Tragedy strikes but thankfully saves Liv and Beans. Now we have a roller coaster of guilt, anger, pity, and fear all wrapped in a bow of a group home and the foster care system. I am not going to give any more away, but you definitely need to take this ride with Liv and Beans.
**But, while on this journey be prepared for all kinds of emotions to come flowing out of you. I laughed, got angry, and cried all multiple times in this story. I'm now on to book 2, Killshot, because I HAVE to find out what is next!

Author Information

Aria Michaels lives in a small town in Illinois with her loving, patient, husband and her six (yes, SIX) energetic boys. Always the creative type, Aria fed off the encouragement of her mother, and started writing and illustrating her own stories at a very young age. Aria's passion for creation and love of the human spirit followed her to the university level where she graduated with an Associates Degree in Fine Arts, and a Bachelors Degree in Communications, with a minor in psychology.

After years of juggling parenthood with her a career in higher education, the universe finally called Aria back to her original passion...writing. When she isn't glued to her computer, or painting her next masterpiece, Aria can be found playing in the dirt with her kids, snuggling up to a good zombie flick with her husband, or sipping a glass of wine by the fire with friends.

~Gladys Quintal~

~AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT~

*Gladys Quintal*

I have known Gladys Quintal for a little while and just love her to pieces! She is one of the nicest people that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Gladys also has the knack for writing awesome books, so I decided one day to see if she would be interested in coming on my blog. After talking, we decided that there is going to be a spotlight (today) so you all can get to know her a little better and come to love her as I do. Then, every little while, I will feature one of her books. I am not sure on the exact schedule yet, so you will just have to keep checking back! I asked Gladys a series of questions for you all to get a bit of insider information. So here you go:

1~WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO WRITE?

I honestly cannot remember a time when I wasn't writing. As a young child, I remember my teachers telling me at story time, to keep it short and not write a book! I used to write stories for my schoolmates and always received high marks for writing essays and poems. I think writing is part of me, a big part of me.

2~WHAT WAS THE FIRST BOOK YOU EVER WROTE, NO MATTER HOW YOUNG YOU WERE?

I never really tried to write a book until I was in my forties. I'd always wanted to, but just never actually sat down and started it. I began with my autobiography and had no idea what I was doing. The first book I published though, was the first book in The Dream Series (The Man of My Dreams).

3~WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE OUT OF ALL OF YOUR BOOKS, PUBLISHED OR NOT?

The first book, The Man of My Dreams is my favourite.

4~WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK YOUR FAVORITE; A CERTAIN SCENE, CHARACTER, OR PLOT?

It is my favourite because there is more of me in that book than any other. Cassie is based on me and the vigilante vampire that kills sex offenders was someone I invented as my hero.
*Blogger break-in~ I think it's awesome that the main characters' name is Cassie too! ;)

5~WHAT IS YOUR DAILY ROUTINE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR WRITING?

Well now, this is where the problem lies! I am a stay at home mum and have to work around my kids and running the household. Writing should be my priority, but it isn't. I write when my daughter has a nap, is a kindy, or late at night when everyone else is in bed.

6~WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU STRUGGLE WITH WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING?

Confidence, self-esteem, thinking that people are not going to like my books...
I don't get writer's block; I have so many stories inside of me that I could probably write non-stop without any problems. But the self-doubt that creeps in is my biggest problem. I will get down on myself and lose the urge to write.

7~WHO IS YOUR AUTHOR INSPIRATION AND WHY?

I actually have more than one. Diana Galbadon wrote the Outlander series, which is my favourite of all time, and I love how she has a Facebook page and interacts with her fans on a regular basis.
Anne Rice is another author that I admire for her honesty and the way she runs her Facebook page.
James Herbert was my favourite horror writter and a big influence on the way that I write.
Victoria Holt inspired me at a young age too.
Trevor Munson wrote the book that inspired the TV show, Moonlight. Moonlight was the show that prompted me to write the Man of My Dreams.

8~WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME AND WHY?

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I found her books when I was in my late twenties and my eldest daughter was very young. They were a wonderful escape for me and I fell in love with Jamie Fraser!

9~WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR WRITING CAREER IN 5 YEARS?

Wow, that is a toughie. I really hope that I will be financially successful and be able to write full-time as my chosen career. That is my plan, anyway. I am hoping to be able to make a living out of writing and not to have to get a "real" job down the track. At the moment I try to publish 3-4 books a year, and that is writing part-time. To be able to do this as my job and be a real author - that is my dream!!

So there you go folks! That is an insight into the life of Gladys Quintal, Aussie terminology and all! For anyone who doesn't know of her books, I am including a complete list as of today:

The Dream Series (Paranormal Romance)
The Man of My Dreams
Be Careful What You Wish For
The Chosen One
Succubus: An Erotic Companion
A Match Made in Hell

Someone To Love Me Trilogy (Contemporary Romance)
Undeserving
Unforgiving
Understanding

Stand-alone Books
Entwined (New Adult/Suspense)

Formerly Me (Paranormal Romance)

The Hapless Harlot (New Adult/Suspense)

Life After Hell: Surviving Sexual Abuse (Autobiography)

Why Won't Someone Help Me? (Non-fiction)

Author Bio

A survivor of sexual abuse, I have recently written the true account of my childhood, titled: Life After Hell: Surviving Sexual Abuse. I have tried to convey what happened to me as well as my journey to finally getting justice.

A lot of my own experiences have gone into my fictional works, especially my first book, The Man of My Dreams. I created a vigilante vampire that rescues woman and children from rapists and child molesters...

I have loved vampires and the paranormal ever since I can remember and always envisioned myself writing a book or two on the subject. These characters I've created are very close to my heart and I hope you will come to love them as much as I have.

BOOK 3 IN THE "YOU LOVED ME" SERIES
BY: EVIE HARPER
RELEASED ON JULY 28, 2015

Synopsis:

She’s no stranger to love and loss…
By age eighteen, Alexa Kingsley had lost everyone. Only Joey, the lonely boy next door, remained. He’d clung to Alexa like a lifeline through years of abuse at the hands of his father, and she vowed to protect him as best she could. Alexa thought Joey was the one person who’d always be there—until the day he left her as well. Finally forced to go it alone, Alexa finds this latest loss may hurt worst of all.

He’s no stranger to lack of love…
Joseph O’Connor was every bit the villain his father trained him to be, his young heart twisted into something ugly, corrupted. But his father underestimated the girl next door, miscalculated the impact Lexi would have on Joey’s life, the spark she ignited that eventually, despite all odds, grew to an inferno of hope. To reclaim her, Joey must first become a man Lexi can be proud of…the kind of man she deserves.

Amidst a shadowy world of guns and drugs, will Joey’s ultimate sacrifice—a declaration of love from a man who was never shown any at all—be enough to finally set him free?

Genre: Fantasy Romance

Date of Publication: November 18, 2014

Price: 0.99

Cover Artist: Fantasia Frog Designs

Synopsis:

Element – Fire (Healer/Destroyer)
Royal House – Purple

Under the guise of progress an ancient evil is rising. Humanity will fall, along with all other species, if five girls, hidden at birth, are not found.

Milcah has lived her life being ridiculed by others for her looks and upbringing. Wanting to leave the small town behind she longs for the day she can pack up her small apartment and see the world. She never imagined her vacation would lead to her destiny.

Jarod is general of the gargoyle army. He's a force to be reckoned with and in a fit of anger a witch turns him and his men into stone statues. For centuries they have stood waiting for someone to free them from their prison.

Can two beings from two different backgrounds find common ground before the world falls into chaos?

Excerpt:

“Damn it. How can I get lost with MapQuest? Stupid directions.” Milcah bangs her fist against the steering wheel. Two weeks ago driving across the country alone seemed like a great plan but now that she is actually doing it, not so much. “If I had known driving was going to be more stressful than work I would have flown.” After leaving Tucson, Arizona she had gotten lost on all the small highways and now she is on a godforsaken two lane highway where she hasn’t seen another car for ages, her phone refuses to get reception, and to top it off there are storm clouds in the distance.
“Fuck me. I should have stayed home.” Something had told her to fill up at the last gas station so she is going to be ok there, but she needs to find somewhere to hole up until this storm passes. Getting stuck in the middle of the desert during a thunderstorm in an older Honda is not a good idea.
After driving another twenty minutes, Milcah spots a sign announcing a small mining town. Even small towns have hot food, hot water, and a nice warm bed. Glancing back at the clouds, she ignores her misgivings and turns right onto a small, barely paved road.
“Ouch!” Her left tire hits a pothole and she hears the bottom of the car scrape. Milcah hopes the older car she is driving is made out of tough material, she can’t afford expensive repairs.
Like a horror movie, the road starts to look overgrown and all but disappearing in some places. Milcah is sure the last time this road was paved was when pavement was first introduced. But with storm clouds riding her ass, there is no way Milcah is turning around. Reaching across to the passenger seat, Milcah picks up her phone, hoping the closer she drives to the town the better her reception will get. No such luck. Throwing her useless phone on the passenger seat, she passes under a sign that reads “Welcome to Beacon”.
“Beacon of what?” Looking around at the empty streets, Milcah feels a chill run down her spine. “This town should be named Forsaken.”
There is no other way to describe the sad, abandoned town. It has overgrown grass on the sides of the road, buildings with blank empty windows and the only sound is the shutters blowing in the wind. The town looks like it had been built in the early gold rush years and then abandoned soon after. Turning onto what she assumes is the main street, Milcah feels an oily sensation pass over her. It reminds her of her dreams.
“What have I gotten myself into? I don’t think phones were invented when this place was a booming town. There’s no way I am sticking around. I can make it to the next town.”
Making a U-turn, Milcah slams on her brakes to avoid hitting…what the hell was that? She knows it wasn't in the road a few seconds ago. Scared but curious, Milcah studies the object. Standing at over seven feet tall, it can’t be mistaken for human. A ghost? But a ghost of what? A little transparent, it has wings, which reach from the middle of its knees and come to a point a little above its head. Wanting to get out the car and investigate but knowing that’s when people are killed in horror movies, Milcah presses the gas pedal, swerves around the creature, and heads for the road out of town. Gripping the steering wheel Milcah tries to stop her hands from shaking. What the hell was that? As she reaches for her phone, again hoping it will work, Milcah feels her hand pass through something warm. Glancing over, Milcah screams as she stares into the eyes of the creature, now calmly sitting in her car. Hitting her brakes to avoid running into anything and putting her car in park, Milcah turns in her seat to stare at it.
Milcah is able to make out more features, a heavy brow covering deep-seated eyes, a semi-flat nose resting over plump lips. Though not a classic beauty in any sense of the word, the thing still doesn’t look like a monster. Curiosity over shadows fear and Milcah reaches out and runs her hand through the creature again feeling the warmth and a slight tingle. Reaching for her amulet in a nervous gesture, Milcah tries to remember what she has read about ghosts and the proper thing to do. She doesn’t have any holy water but it doesn’t look like the thing is trying to suck out her soul or kill her.
“I think I have read way too many supernatural novels and need to get my head checked.” Milcah looks out the window, making sure she isn’t hanging upside down after crashing her car. A car crash would go a long way to explaining what is happening. She turns her attention back to what’s sitting in her passenger’s seat. It seems to be studying her just as much as she is studying it.
It seems fascinated by the amulet Milcah is playing with and reaches out as if to touch it. Moving the amulet out of reach, Milcah tries to figure out what she is going to do. She is not a very brave woman and has trouble stepping outside of her box but somehow, she feels like she is supposed to be right here, at this moment. Looking at her amulet again, Milcah longs to be able to ask her mother to explain what is happening.  Milcah glances at her phone again, hoping to see it has reception. Growling to herself, she looks back at the creature to see he is following the movement of her thumb as she rubs the amulet.
“What would Mary do?” Milcah envies Mary’s ability to believe in the supernatural outside of books. Milcah believes in the goddess and to honor her, humans need to take care of the world they have been given. She lights candles during the full moon and reads her own tarot cards. She even went to see a few mystics with her mother. Yet nothing has prepared her for what she is facing in this small deserted town. She always believed people move on to the next cycle and supernatural beings like vampires, werewolves, and gargoyles were fantasies made up by humans to explain evils in the world.
Last year she had decided to see why she was having nightmares and a psychologist told her she was suppressing memories from childhood. He believed Milcah had been abused as a child and the dreams were her mind’s way of dealing with the trauma. Milcah never told anyone about the visit and never went back. Now she makes a mental note to call the doctor when she returns home.
Help us. The sound of a deep male voice overlaid with many others causes Milcah to jump. Shaking her head, Milcah tries to ignore the voice echoing around her. Help us.
“I’m going insane,” Milcah grimaces. “I need to get to the next town.”
As soon as the words leave Milcah’s mouth, thunder rolls across the sky, quickly followed by a flash of lightening. “Dang it. I cannot drive in a desert rainstorm. What if there’s a flash flood? I have to think of something. I can’t stay here.” The GPS is useless but Mary had been thoughtful and placed a paper map in the middle console. After looking at the confusing lines on the map for a few minutes, Milcah gives up and tosses it into the backseat. Crossing her arms, she sits back and tries to think of another plan.
Help us. There it is again. Glancing over at the creature in her passenger seat Milcah wonders if he’s pushing his voice into her head. Before she can ask him the voice echoes again. Help us. With that last plea, something unlocks in Milcah’s mind. Something akin to a memory surfaces and Milcah loses focus, in the real world.

The Author:

Paulina is a small town girl with big dreams. She is the second oldest of three talented siblings.

As early as three she was directing her family around acting out whatever current story was in her head. At four between her older brother and her, a whole universe was created which the younger siblings were introduced into as they were born.

Her natural ability to tell a story took her down many paths. She wrote plays, poems, small children books and short stories all before she went to high school.

When picking a career her councilor told her writing was a dying art and so she went to school for veterinarian science. Three years later she dropped out of university and went to a community college with journalism major.

In 2008 she graduated with her BA in Communication/Journalism from Cal State Fullerton.

Life got in the way but in 2013 she started a review blog and November 2014 her first book was published.

~Cover Reveal For Falling Angels~

Jen Winters is an up and coming indie author, who has already released two books and is graciously letting me share the cover for her third novel. I even have the synopsis of the book to share with you!! Are you as excited as I am?! You should be, because this book is going to blow you away!

Before we get to that though, let's look at the first book of The Guardian Novels, Kissing Demons. It was released December of 2014 and in just a few short months, has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars on Amazon! In this book, we are introduced to the Guardians, who are charged with protecting us from the things that go bump in the night. Reading the reviews that have been left on Kissing Demons, there are plenty of these things that we need protecting from.

Now that we are about to get book two, are you ready to see what is going to happen? Well, here it is:

~Synopsis~

What's worse than losing your job? How about losing your life, your home, and everything familiar? I just wanted to work. What did I get in return? A long fucking fall with a sudden stop.

Stranded on earth with little hope for survival and an eternity of banishment ahead of me, I did the only thing I knew--I worked the jobs I could. Until I realized I'd been replaced. Then I got mad.

Eleven thousand years of fighting for my destiny had me broken, bitter, and ready to just give up. And then my best friend blew up Fort Worth and screwed the entire universe in the process. Now I have to save his ass from everyone including the Guardians.

I hate Guardians--those intrusive vixens replaced me, took over my job, and left me utterly useless. But this one, Lavina, she's almost as old as I am and she is starting to get under my skin. I can't concentrate when she's around--everything about her mystifies me and why the hell do I remember her from before? She shouldn't even exist! And certainly not in my memory.
******************
Soooo??? What do you think?? Does that not sound completely mind blowing?? Oh my gosh! I cannot WAIT to get my hands on this book! It is going to be great!

Wait!
If that awesome blurb wasn't enough....we still have the cover to look at! Here is the beautiful piece of art:

Is that not just a gorgeous piece of work?! This awesome cover was made by Julie Nicholls, and her contact information will be down below if you're interested in contacting her. Before you go to do that, admire this cover first. I can't get over how great everything flows together. The wings and the hair, and those eyes! Everything looks great!

It’s the perfect setting for a romantic getaway at sea: Caribbean breezes, clear blue skies, passionate nights, and murder? Not exactly what Detective Charlie McClung and Marian had in mind for their honeymoon. When one of their fellow passengers is murdered on her 35th wedding anniversary, Charlie and Marian get pulled into the investigation. Who would want to kill poor Tammy Ferguson in such a brutal way? As Charlie uncovers more sordid details about Tammy and her husband, Peter, it becomes clear that someone else has found the same skeletons in the Ferguson’s closet and Tammy has paid the price. Is Peter next?

Trapped on the ship with a killer, shadows seem more ominous and even the most innocent faces seem sinister. Has Charlie inadvertently put Marian in harm’s way? How long does Charlie have before the hunter becomes the hunted?
